One the second afternoon of my family’s four-day backpacking trip on the mile (54k) Rockwall Trail in Kootenay National Park, we reached the first of three passes we would cross over the course of the trip—and the first of two that day. The Rockwall lives up to its name in the fullest with several sections of extended granite ridges that accompanies the trail for the majority of the hike. We hiked it over 3 days and 2 nights heading south. The elevation changes for the hike can prove challenging, but was fine for our pace.
